Who is Jessica Jewett?

Born in Colorado in 1982, Jessica is part Wild West cowboy from her father and part Missouri girl from her mother. She grew up camping, fishing, and learning American history from historical reenactors starting in her infancy. Having parents who refused to coddle her because of her disability set her up for a lifetime of a tough attitude and a willingness to try anything at least once.

Jessica left downtown Atlanta for the Appalachian foothills at the convergence of the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers in 2021 and she hasn't looked back. The peace and nature found in country life helps her manage chronic illnesses Along with her mother, she makes her home with her service dog, Willow, her cat, Anubis, and her guinea pig, Hank. Together all of them enjoy quiet country life despite being on the second floor of an apartment building.

She was born with a condition known as Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. Due to the circumstances of her birth, the condition made her a quadriplegic. Learning to paint and write was a desire inside of her from a very young age, so she taught herself to do both with the tools utilized by her mouth rather than her hands before she even started school. In fact, she started winning art contests in St. Louis at the age of six.

Besides capturing portraits with pencil and paint, Jessica is also an author. Her publications range from historical fiction to paranormal nonfiction and poetry. A passion for telling the stories of the historical people in her art inspired her to become a writer. Spiritually, as a practitioner of American folk magic derived from her Scottish roots by way of Appalachia and the Deep South, she began developing her skills as an intuitive reader with divination tools like tarot cards and scrying mirrors as a little girl. Much of her artistic endeavors reflect her spirituality as well as her love of history, settling her signature aesthetic into a soft Southern Gothic impression. Whether charcoal pencil, colored pencil, watercolors, or oils, Jessica has a varied approach to art.

Don’t forget to look at Jessica’s shop if you’re interested in buying her art for yourself!
